Statewide: Nursing Home Ownership And The Impact On Residents During COVID-19

An analysis of COVID-19 data shows not-for-profit nursing homes in Illinois have done a better job at controlling coronavirus infections and deaths than other facilities. But when it comes to choosing one over the other, it's not so simple.

We'll also get caught up on a political scandal that has shaken Illinois politics.

Those stories and more on this episode of Statewide. <--break->

This week's lineup:

* Dave McKinney and Dan Mihalopolous give an update on what we know about an alleged bribery scheme involving the utility Commonwealth Edison. Four people were arraigned this week, including one confidant of House Speaker Michael Madigan.

* Christine Herman speaks with Dr. Ernest Wang, Chief of Emergency Medicine at NorthShore in Evanston, about concerns over ICU space in hospitals.

* Chip Mitchell of WBEZ analyzed data about nursing homes to find out which ones have been able to fight COVID-19. More than half the fatailities from the disease have involved residents in long term care.

* Eric Stock with WGLT hears from Laurie Round and Elizabeth Angelo, both with Carle Health, about the space and staff limitations at health care facilities during the pandemic.

* Brian Moline of WILL interviews vocalist and composer Somi, who grew up in Champaign-Urbana. She was just nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
