Rockford Manhunt Called Off: Murder Suspect Still At-Large

Illinois State Police

Two Rockford parks were closed and three schools were on “soft” lockdown today as police searched for a murder suspect.

They used dogs and a helicopter to search an area including Page and Searls Parks: they’re looking for 22-year-old Kody Walsh of Rockford. He’s accused of shooting a woman to death early Sunday morning in a car on the Illinois tollway near South Beloit.

The unsuccessful search was prompted by a report from someone who said they saw Walsh running in a field near Safford and Springfield Roads. A Winnebago County judge issued a first degree murder warrant yesterday. Police say Walsh has not been seen since he ran off on foot after crashing a car and firing at officers early Sunday morning.

36-year-old Lori Daniels of Janesville was shot and killed early Sunday morning. Police say Walsh should be considered armed and dangerous. Call 911 or the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department at 815-319-6300.
