Hundreds of bicyclists turned out for the inaugural Cycle on 2nd event in Rockford Sunday morning. The weather was perfect, the road was safe, and -- in an unusual move -- the city blocked vehicular traffic on North 2nd Street to make way for cyclists.
An abundance of unusual bicycles filled the road, and the event attracted members from all corners of the community.
Mayor Tom McNamara spoke enthusiastically about the future of Rockford's bicycle culture and said, "We are allocating money to connect Rockford's neighborhoods."
Event organizers hope to turn Cycle On 2nd into an annual event.
