An Illinois Democrat has been elected to head her party's Congressional campaign committee.
Representative Cheri Bustos is only the second woman to head the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She beat out two other representatives from Washington State who wanted to lead the organization that’s tasked with getting more Democrats elected to the House.
Bustos is also the lone Midwestern representative in House Democratic leadership. The Moline Democrat says she’s uniquely qualified to lead in today’s political world because she has had overwhelming support in her district, which strongly supported Donald Trump in his presidential bid. She has twin goals as head of the DCCC – to protect incumbents while going on the offensive in districts Democrats narrowly lost this year.
