The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office issued an update on the murder investigation of Patricia and Robert Wilson. They were found dead on Aug. 15, 2016, just before 6 p.m. in their home at 16058 Old State Road in rural Sycamore.
The DeKalb County Coroner's Office determined the cause of death was due to blunt force trauma.
Investigators with DeKalb County and the FBI continue to work on the case. To date, they have received 1,100 leads. Physical evidence has been submitted to the Illinois State Crime Lab.
That has yielded a DNA profile from evidence within the crime scene.
The Wilson case is also being reviewed by the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit based out of Quantico, Virginia.
This week, police issued a timeline leading up to the deaths.
Aug. 14 (times are approximate)
9:15 a.m. The Wilson's attend service at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sycamore
10:30 a.m. They have breakfast with friends at Sycamore Cafe and return home
12:00 p.m. Robert leaves for the Sycamore Moose Lodge
4:30 p.m. Robert leaves the Moose Lodge and heads home
7:43 p.m. Patricia talks on the telephone with a relative
Aug. 15
12:44 a.m. The Wilson's vehicle is recorded by a traffic camera traveling east on Illinois 64 at Illinois 59
11:58 a.m. The Impala is documented on a CTA bus video parked at North Stockton
6 p.m. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office receives a call for a death investigation at the Wilson's home
Chicago Police located their white Impala near the Lincoln Park Zoo on Aug. 24.
Investigators believe the perpetrator is familiar with the Sycamore area and may have ties to the community. It is possible the crimes were committed by a homeless individual who relied on public transportation. The profile suggests the perpetrator may have attempted to break-in to several other homes in the days leading up to the murders.
DeKalb County Crime Stoppers has issued a cash reward up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the crime.
