NIU, Sauk Valley Partner To Make Degrees Convenient

Sauk Valley Community College / Northern Illinois University

Sauk Valley Community College and Northern Illinois University have partnered to make earning a degree more convenient.

Sauk Valley president Dave Hellmich and NIU president Doug Baker came together on Tuesday to sign two new agreements.

The first is the "reverse transfer agreement", allowing Sauk Valley students to transfer to NIU and finish their associate’s degree within any department. Likewise, NIU students can transfer credits to Sauk Valley to finish their associate’s.

The other agreement is "3+1", enabling manufacturing and technology students to earn a bachelor’s degree at NIU without stepping foot on campus.

Through "3+1", Sauk students can take 60 hours of classes to earn a technical associate of applied science degree.

For a Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis in applied manufacturing technology, students need to take 30 hours of general education or B.S. prerequisites.

The other 30 hours of the degree are NIU technology courses. However, these last 10 classes can now be taken completely online.

President Baker hopes the two colleges will continue to sign similar agreements in other departments.
