Motorola Moving Schaumburg Headquarters ... But Not Far

Motorola Solutions is now the latest company to move its headquarters from the suburbs to downtown Chicago. The communications company will leave some employees back in Schaumburg - but by next summer, its global headquarters and around 800 workers will call 500 West Monroe Street the home office.

CEO Greg Brown says this is actually a return to Chicago for his company: it was founded there in 1928. Why would Motorola want to go back now,  given the city’s financial situation? Brown says he’s thinking ahead: "While there are fiscal challenges that confront every major city, we look for the long term return on invested capital. Not just capital deployment for infrastructure but access to capital in terms of thee pool of talent."

Meanwhile the company is moving its manufacturing and delivery operations to Elgin.
