Longtime Postal Employee Keeps Lines Moving And Spirits Up

Connie Kuntz

The holidays can be stressful no matter where you work, but one industry seems to carry the lion's share of the burden: The United States Postal Service.

Sally Henze is the Lead Sales and Service Clerk for the downtown Rockford Post Office.  She has been on the job for 38 years and still enjoys it. She is a "people person" and says her customers keep her motivated.

"I love my customers," she said. " I have some of the best people in the world who cross over my counter.  Lotta different backgrounds. Rich, poor. They're all just wonderful."

Of course, wonderful people during the most wonderful time of the year can always benefit from a little postal advice. Sally says to expedite the process, have your packages ready before you get in line.

"Have 'em taped up, have 'em addressed and have everything packed, very well, wrapped good. Don't try to send liquids or batteries or colognes. Don't wait til the last minute! Try to mail early."

Even though it is so busy, Sally's favorite time of the year to work is the month of December; she doesn't have a least favorite time to work.

"I enjoy my job. I really do. I enjoy it every day," she said.
