At Least 4 Interested In LaHood’s Former State Senate Seat

State of Illinois

State Senator Darin LaHood is expected to step down this week after winning election to Congress. That means the ten Republican Party chairs in the district have one month to review applications and pick a replacement.

Peoria County Republican Party chairwoman Katherine Coyle says four people are interested in the job so far.

“Many of those people have been making their way just to meet for coffee, meet all the county chairman, get to know them, talk to them, show them their resumes, that type of thing,” Coyle said.

Coyle says three of those interested are from Peoria and one from Knox County. She says anyone can apply once the Republican county chairs start formally accepting and reviewing candidates.

Coyle says the party chairs will have one month to vote someone to LaHood’s senate seat after he resigns. She says the votes for each county are weighted based on Republican voter turnout in the last gubernatorial election.

The 37th State Senate District spans parts of ten counties in central and western Illinois.
