The Illinois State Police is looking to bolster its ranks with new troopers, both rookie and experienced.
ISP is currently taking applicationsfor two different classes of cadets. One would be their standard 26-week training regimen, and the other is a "fast-track" program for those with previous experience in law enforcement. Trooper Aldo Schumann is the Northern Recruitment and Internship Coordinator.
He says fast-track applications are due at the end of September.
"The Fast Track Program provides an opportunity for certified police officers to become Illinois State troopers," he said. "The duration of the fast track for that class would be slightly less than half the standard of the 26 weeks for that class."
Schumann says the last class had good recruitment numbers.
"The class began with 70 cadets and we have 57 graduates," he said. "We currently have another cadet class in there now that's scheduled to graduate later this year. So we're looking for that graduate number to increase slightly every time we have a cadet class."
ISP has been working to replenish its ranks over the years, particularly to address attrition.
