Illinois House Democrats lost their supermajority this election. That change means they lose the ability to override a veto by Gov. Bruce Rauner.
Rep. Litesa Wallace, D-Rockford, says the outcome of Tuesday’s election may not hit the party as hard as some observers may expect.
“Well, it was already a precarious supermajority in the first place," Wallace said. "So numerically it was, but not always in terms of the vote. We had about three or four members who may or may not have always gone with the entire caucus.
"Now we will be about four members down from the caucus," she said, "so I don’t see it being drastically different than what we have seen over the past two years."
Senate Democrats still will have a supermajority. Lawmakers return to Springfield Nov. 15.
