Illinois Congressman Advocates For State Concealed Carry Reciprocity

U.S. Rep. John Shimkus says people with an Illinois permit to carry a concealed weapon should be allowed to carry their guns in other states.

Shimkus co-sponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, or HR 38. It says people authorized to carry a concealed weapon in their home state can do so in any other state --- even if that state has a stricter concealed-carry law. The bill does not establish a federal permit registry. Shimkus also says the bill does not regulate how the states issue concealed carry permits, and it mandates that gun carriers obey the concealed carry laws of the state or locality they’re in.

The House passed the measure last week on a vote of 231-198. It now goes to the Senate.
