A controversial proposal to build a new electrical transmission line across Iowa and Illinois has won approval for the Illinois portion of the project. Tuesday the Illinois Commerce Commission gave its permission to Rock Island Clean Line.

Commission spokeswoman, Beth Bosch, says 121 miles of the 500-mile line will be built in Illinois, from just north of the Quad Cities, east to near Morris in Grundy County. Will have to ask separately for permission to use emminent domain.

The Illinois route includes Rock Island, Henry, Whiteside, Bureau, and LaSalle counties. The purpose of the new transmission line is to carry electricity generated by wind in northwest Iowa to customers in eastern Illinois. It has not yet received permission from the state of Iowa.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
