Home Care Worker Appeals To Rauner ‘Father To Father’ About Cuts

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner warns cuts are coming if there's no budget deal. Beginning July 1, that could leave some people without jobs.

Several union members gathered to make an appeal to the Governor.

Kevin Holmes is employed as a Home Care Worker. He's a father of four.

Holmes is concerned about what will happen to his paycheck if Rauner's proposal to cut back on home care services for seniors and the disabled goes through. He says he's worried about the people he cares for.

Holmes gathered with other members of the union SEIU to send a message to the governor to "appeal to him father to father […] that we want him to be responsible and pass a budget that will include the seniors the people with disability and the children."

Kaitlin DeCero from SEIU Healthcare says thousands of seniors would lose the daily help that home care workers provide.

"What that will result in is a lot of folks not having that option to live at home anymore and really being forced into institutions -- nursing home care living -- before they should be," DeCero said.

The union says most of those seniors are women who live alone.

Rauner says he's reducing the program because it's prudent budget management.
