Remember last month when we launched our first-ever contest for short fiction? We called it "Three-Minute Fiction," inspired by an NPR contest of the same name.
GK Wuori, a Pushcart-Prize winning author, issued https://youtu.be/37vRQaL93Yg" target="_blank">the prompt, and agreed to be our judge. When the deadline arrived on Sept. 20, we had more than 100 submissions.
After much deliberation, Wuori selected five finalists who get to read their stories on our air. All of these were winners, he says, so we'll broadcast the author readings in the order he called them -- one per day this week during Morning Edition.
Wuori also selected five honorable mentions; we'll post these authors reading their work later this week.
In the link below, Wuori describes the qualities he liked about the first of his finalists:
The author is Terry Dickow of Rochelle, Illinois. Below, we posted a video of Dickow reading his story, "Untitled."
Tomorrow, we'll post the 2nd of Wuori's finalists. Listen during Morning Edition at 6:44 and 8:44 (CT). Then come back here to see a video of the author reading his/her story.
Thanks to all the authors who submitted stories. We're already making plans to have another short fiction contest next year. In the mean time, keep writing! Someday you might get to share your story with WNIJ listeners.
