A Rockford man shot by a police officer last month now faces murder charges.
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announced that a Grand Jury had returned an indictment against 21-year-old Tyris Jones for first degree murder.
Jones was charged with the September murder of 25-year-old Demavalee Macklin. Rockford Police Chief Daniel O’Shea says that this is just one of the many gun fire deaths in the region.
“I would implore Mr. Jones to turn himself in to the county jail or the Rockford police department,” O’Shea said. “As the state’s attorney said, we’re trying to give the Macklin family some closure going forward.”
An autopsy determined that Macklin died as a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained. There is currently a $5 million warrant out for Jones. In October, he was shot several times by Rockford police officer Dominik McNiece during a traffic stop. Jones is set to appear in court on November 24th on unrelated charges.
