Gov. Rauner Signs Youth Hunting Bills

Carl Nelson/WNIJ

Illinois has new rules on youth hunting.   Governor Bruce Rauner signed several bills into law, one of which expanded state programs to include trapping.  Another adds a weekend to the youth turkey hunting season.  When signing the bills, Rauner reflected on how he started hunting.

“My grandfather was a dairy farmer, corn farmer, lived in a little double-wide trailer, taught me about hunting, how to fish, and he loved hunting, loved the outdoors, and he instilled that in me.  I’ve instilled that in my kids, and this is part of what makes family in America.  It’s so enjoyable," he said.

The bills also allow new animals to be caught, including bobwhite quail and gray partridge.  Bowfishers may also catch catfish.
