Fundraiser Rakes In Nearly Half-Million Dollars For Area Non-Profits

DeKalb County Community Foundation

Officials say the annual “Give DeKalb County” campaign reached all-time highs in donations.

More than $466,000 were raised in a 24-hour period. Donations came in from 33 states and three different countries.

Top recipients include Oaken Acres Wildlife Center, Safe Passage and Hope Haven.

Other participants were Adventure Works, the Elwood House Association and Tails.

Ben Bingle, with the DeKalb County Community Foundation, said it's an especially difficult time for non-profits with the state approaching two years with no budget.

“So, an event like ‘Give DeKalb County’ is something that is timely and a great opportunity to build community and encourage philanthropy in DeKalb County," he said.

He added that local non-profits work tirelessly to provide a wide range of services.

?"Ultimately, they enhance the quality of life in our community, he says, "and so, it's really inspiring and heartening that donors feel compelled to support these organizations.”

?Checks were doled out to participating non-profits at an event May 31.

?Organizers said they plan to continue the event next year.
