Former Rockford Cop And Security Guard Arrested For Armed Robbery

Winnebago County State's Attorney's office

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato says a former Rockford police officer is one of two people facing charges for an armed robbery.

Former officer Yuliya Kuznets and former Rockford Metro Enforcement officer James Akerman are accused of committing armed robbery at the Van Galder bus depot July 22. Kuznets also worked for Rockford Metro Enforcement, which is a private security company. The two quit the company earlier this year.

A police SWAT team raided their Rockford home Friday and confiscated 1000 rounds of ammunition, six guns, and more than 4,000 pills, including Oxycontin, morphine, and hydrocodone. Kuznets and Akerman were not home at the time and were arrested without incident later that day at another location.

The two are being held on $750,000 bond in the Winnebago County Jail.

Bruscato says the arrests show that no one is above the law and that violent crime will not be tolerated in the community.
