Five To Seven Inches Of Snow On The Way

National Weather Service

Are you ready for the latest round of shoveling? A winter weather advisory for northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin is in effect through 6:00 Friday evening.

Expect very heavy snow at times overnight, with snow fall rates of an inch or more an hour. By the time it’s over, we should see 5 to 7 inches on the ground. The bulk of that is expected by 6:00 am Friday.

Gusty winds should add to the trouble this storm is brewing. Gusts of up to 35 miles an hour are expected, creating brief white-out conditions at times, and knocking visibility down to less than a half mile during less-intense periods.

Blowing snow, slushy or icy roads, and low visibility could complicate the morning commute.

Check the Illinois Department of Transportation’s road conditions map before heading out and check our website for closings and cancelations.
