US Senator Dick Durbin says it’s time the law enforcement community provided its two cents on proposed gun legislation.
The Illinois Democrat says police organizations typically withhold their comments when bills on assault weapons and background checks come before Congress.
“We need them to step forward and say ‘this is what we should do, which would be sensible, and keep America safer.’ They’re a credible voice. These men and women risk their lives every morning when they get up and put a badge on. And I think we need their voices," he said.
Durbin spoke in Urbana yesterday. He says assault weapons give an advantage to terrorists and criminals. He also says law enforcement agents should step forward to say they make no sense.
