Dixon comptroller fired

The City of Dixon has fired its comptroller. City Council members voted unanimously today to fire Rita Crundwell, retroactive to the day she was arrested on federal wire fraud charges. Crundwell is charged with misappropriating $3.2-million from the city since last fall: a federal complaint also accuses her of embezzling $30-million over the past six years. Crundwell sent a letter of resignation to Dixon mayor Jim Burke over the weekend, citing terms of her federal recognizance bond that prohibit her from working at a job where she handles money. City council chose to fire her instead of allowing her to resign.
