Lincoln Elementary School was forced to close Tuesday due to hot weather. Temperatures reached as high as 90 degrees, with a heat index ten degrees higher.
The building is the last in the DeKalb Community School District to lack air conditioning. The Daily Chronicle reports some parents criticized the school for spending more on giving students Chromebook computers rather than upgrading building infrastructure.
School officials say window air conditioners are already present in the Principal and Nurse’s offices, but installing them in classrooms is unfeasible because the electrical system can’t handle the load.
With similar temperatures expected today, classes are already canceled.
