DeKalb.org

The DeKalb School Board voted 4-3 Tuesday night to approve a three-year contractfor new superintendent Richard Craven.

The Daily Chronicle reportsthe new superintendent would be paid $180,000 in his first year  and begin work July 1. He worked 23 years in the Rochelle school district, the past 10 as superintendent. Craven's predecessor, Dr. Doug Moeller, resigned amid allegations of sexual harassment by former DeKalb High School Principal Michele Albano.

The board also plans to recommend testing the water in district buildings for lead.  Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner signed Senate Bill 550 in January, which mandates that buildings constructed before 1987 have testing completed by the end of the year. Structures built between 1987 and 2000 have until 2018 to finish the work.  The county plans to use Batavia-based Aires Consulting, at a cost to exceed no more than $14,000.
