DeKalb County Planning And Zoning Committee Pushes Forward Request For Wind Tower Construction

Dual Freq

The DeKalb County Planning and Zoning Committee passed to the full board a California company’s request to install wind-testing towers in South Grove Township.

The Daily Chronicle reports EDF Renewable Energy wants to use the towers to collect meteorological data so it can determine if a wind farm would be profitable in the area.  The recommendation was forwarded under the condition that the company remove the towers after 18 months.

DeKalb County established a moratorium in March on any renewable-energy developments for 18 months, or until a renewable-energy ordinance is enacted. The committee recommended an amendment to the moratorium allowing the installation of rooftop solar panels on commercial and industrial properties, provided the energy is used on site and not sold.

Both recommendations now go to the full county board.
