DeKalb County Meal Service Forced To Cut Back Amid Budget Impasse

vacdk.com

A northern Illinois program that provides meal service is cutting back due to the state's budget impasse.

DeKalb's Voluntary Action Centerannounced a reduction in its nutrition services. The interim director says 53 percent of the Center's Aging Service grant money for the Meals on Wheels program comes directly from the state.

The schedule for the Senior Lunch program at the DeKalb Senior Center will be affected the most.

Meals will be served five days per week at the Taylor Street Plaza (TSP) at 507 E. Taylor Street. Hot lunch will be served on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays. Breakfast only will be served at the TSP on Wednesdays, and Fridays will be a cold-boxed lunch.

At the DeKalb Senior Center, 330 Grove Street, hot lunch will be served on Wednesdays and Fridays.

According to a release from the Center, the new schedule is considered a temporary measure until funding is more secure.
