Deadline For Insurance Enrollment Approaching

WUIS

The deadline to enroll in the health care marketplace is Sunday, and counselors across the state are meeting with people to help sign them up.

Loren Greer is a 63-year-old truck driver who was taken off his company's health coverage when he was forced into early retirement. He sought help from an in-person counselor so he can avoid paying a fee after the Feb. 15 deadline.

If it weren't for the threat of a $325 fee, Greer might not enroll.

"It doesn't do any good to really worry about it, does it? What's going to happen's going to happen. It's like I said before, you can be healthy today and dead tomorrow. Nothing's a sure thing except death and taxes."

Scott Cross, program manager for Family Guidance Centers, emphasized the urgency in getting enrolled before the deadline.

"Don't wait 'til the last minute. When they wait 'til the last minute, they're rushed. What if there's some paperwork they don't have? Stop and meet with an in-person counselor and get signed up. Tick-tock, the deadline is approaching February 15; we're weeks away."
