A winter storm is making its way across northern Illinois. A Winter Weather Advisory has been extended until midnight for northern Illinois. AWinter Storm Warning is in effect for McHenry and Lake Counties, where 6 to 10 inches of snow are expected overnight. Forecasters say strong winds will also make travel difficult at times. As a result, some schools, colleges, and businesses are closed today.

Northern Illinois University and all of its campuses close at 5:00
Illinois Valley Community College closes at 3:00
Highland Community College – night classes cancelled
Kishwaukee College will close at 1 p.m.
Rasmussen College – night classes cancelled
Rockford College closes at 3:00. All activities on campus are canceled.
Rockford Career College closes at 5:00.
Rock Valley College – night classes are cancelled
Sauk Valley College will close at 2:00: all events canceled

Amboy School District – closing early, no after school activities
Belvidere – no after school activities
Boone/Winnebago Regional Alternative Schools – afternoon activities canceled
DeKalb School District -- after-school activities are cancelled. Sports events may be affected as well. Contact school principals for more information.
Rockford School District – no afterschool activities
Rochelle - no after school activities
Sterling School District – activities canceled
Sycamore School District – no after school activities
Woodstock School District – no after school activities
