It was Halloween night, 1938. People were mesmerized, even terrified, by what they heard coming from their radios. The world was being attacked by invaders from space.

WNIJ celebrates the work of author H.G. Wells and actor/director Orson Welles with “War of the Welles,” by R.H. Greene, with introductions by George Takei. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the radio dramatization of “The War of the Worlds,” featuring clips from the famous broadcast and historic interviews with some of the key players.

Northern Illinois University’s STEM Read has also chosen “The War of the Worlds” as the subject of its next project. As they said in the Golden Age of Radio…stay tuned!

Another Take On War of the Worlds

Radio Lab has its own fascinating take on the “War of the Worlds” broadcast. Don’t miss their version of the backstory of the 1938 broadcast, plus a terrifying disaster-come-true in Quito, Ecuador. This was also the Radio Lab guys' first live broadcast.
