Blue Cross Blue Shield Shifts Plan Availability For Rockford-Area Hospitals

Beginning next year, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois will no longer offer PPO network plans at almost every OSF hospital.

WIFR reports the exception is Saint Anthony Health Center in Alton. OSF locations in northern Illinois affected by the move include hospitals in Kewanee, Mendota and Ottawa and Rockford; and the OSF Center for Health in Streator.

Blue Cross Commercial, BCBS PPO, all Blue Choice and EPO products are included in this termination. OSF protested the move, saying it hopes BCBS Illinois realizes "the value of having OSF HealthCare hospitals in its network for its members, and rescind its termination." It also posted information on its website.

MercyHealth System says it will participate in Blue Cross Blue Shield for the first time in many years. The move gives customers access to a variety of services, most prominently the MercyHealth hospital on Rockton Avenue and the new facility at Riverside Boulevard.
