Ballot Objection Delays Early Voting In Rockford

The Rockford Board of Elections is postponing early voting for the March 20th primary election.

This comes after an objection for State Representative Scott Drury’s attorney general bid. The case hinges on whether the Highwood Democrat properly filed a statement of economic interest.

Stacey Bixby is executive director of the Rockford Board of Elections.

“If people voted for him, then his name was removed, then there wouldn’t be a vote in that office at all because his name would have to come off," she said.

So, Bixby says her office is waiting on the case outcome to begin casting ballots.

“It’s very important to us to make sure that when we’re giving a voter a ballot, they are getting exactly what they’re supposed to receive," she said.

Bixby says Winnebago County residents are able to start voting Thursday as scheduled.

Meanwhile, early voting in Rockford is scheduled to begin Feb. 21.
