Arkar Kyaw

Arkar Kyaw is a Fulbright scholar who came from Myanmar, also known as Burma, with the mission of promoting Burmese language and culture at Northern Illinois University and beyond.

The 25-year-old Mandalay native started his career as an English teacher in his home town at the age of 19. Now, he holds the vice-principal position at The Big Dipper, one of the most renowned language schools in Mandalay. 

Arkar aims to bring social justice through education and presented his views on education in ten countries across Asia, Europe and America with various scholarships and exchange programs in the past three years.

He will finish his spell at NIU as a Fulbright scholar in May. He chooses teaching as a career by heart. He adores singing, swimming and soccer and has been an active community member of NIU and DeKalb.
