Another Potential Candidate Surfaces For 18th District Seat

State of Illinois

Bloomington Construction Company owner Ed Brady may run for Congress in the 18th District. The seat will be vacant at the end of the month with the resignation of Representative Aaron Schock of Peoria.

Governor Bruce Rauner has until April 5th to announce a special election schedule. Ed Brady says he will make a final decision whether to run after the election is scheduled.

“This’ll be a low voter turnout, so you gotta get to your base, you gotta get to the people that will come out and vote, and we need to make sure that the counties are willing to have that opportunity. You know, it’ll be a retail politics campaign.”

State Senator Darin LaHood of Peoria already announced he is running for the seat. Former State Representative Jil Tracy of Quincy may also enter the race.

Brady comes from a family long involved in politics. He says he could be the only viable candidate who is outside the political system. Brady's brother is State Senator Bill Brady, who is a several-time candidate for Governor.

Current 18th District Congressman Aaron Schock recently announced his resignation following six weeks of stories raising questions about his campaign, business, and office spending practices. Federal investigations continue.
