Sarah Jesmer

Social Justice Reporter

Sarah Jesmer is a reporter focused on stories of justice, religion, human rights and agriculture. She grew up in DeKalb as a Canadian American, and studied multimedia journalism at Concordia University in Montreal. There, she covered countless protests, local government meetings, and various music news. She worked as a copy editor with an online media outlet called Her Campus, made for and by women writers.  

She’s volunteered as a researcher and videographer for Canadian-based Center for Research-Action on Race Relations. She’s also worked to support audio journalism workshops with South Side Weekly Radio in Chicago.

She values community, skill sharing, and all things expressive or creative (including baking!)

Last week, we took a look at the controversial history between the city of DeKalb and Hunter Properties, a large local rental property owner. A network of DeKalb community efforts are addressing crimes reported at apartments, which have recently been under the microscope.
