November is Adoption Awareness Month. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is launching "What’s Your Connection?".
As part of the campaign, state officials distributed 10,000 rubber bracelets and paper chains. DCFS spokesperson Jen Florent explained why.
“The idea behind the paper chain and the bracelets is to show what everyone’s connection to adoption is, so that adoption is not a stigma, it’s something that is out in the mainstream.”
More than 16,000 Illinois children were placed in a permanent home within the last decade through DCFS adoptions. More than 1,700 youth are currently waiting to be adopted.
