Nearly 300 people die each year in Illinois waiting for an organ transplant. As National Donate Life Month begins, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is working on two fronts to advance the cause.
He is pushing for a law that would allow 16-and 17-year-olds to register for the state’s donor registry, and he is launching an awareness campaign for organ and tissue donation to observe National Donate Life Month during April.
The Public Service Announcements will air on radio, TV, and in movie theaters throughout this month.
The new campaign features three recipients whose lives were saved because of donations. One of them mentions a significant milestone in the history of Illinois sports:
Libraries, hospitals, colleges, and health fairs are planning donor drives statewide. Illinoisans can register at LifeGoesOn.com or 1-800-210-2106.
