Event Description

Consisting of photography, video, and sound, Milad Mozari’s project Language of Movement features the artist’s interpretation of Beijing opera performer Ghaffar Pourazar’s life as an Iranian immigrant, to a UK-based animation professor, and ultimately key figure in Beijing Opera as the Monkey King (Sun Wuking). Using Pourazar’s 30 year archive as his primary resource, Mozari enlivens this personal journey of the performer by utilizing computer vision, animation, and immersive sound as tools with which to reveal intersections between Beijing Opera and technology. Furthermore, by rediscovering Pouazar’s movements through digital, sometimes surveillance inspired processes, Mozari creates a parallel narrative of the performer’s life. Much of Mozari’s research and experiments accumulate towards his next film project around the life of Pourazar as a performer.
