With more drivers on the road this Thanksgiving, the Illinois State Police will be out in full force

With many people taking to the highway to visit friends and family for Thanksgiving, the Illinois State Police says to do it safely. Trooper Josh Korando says he can't stress enough the importance, of leaving your phone alone when driving.

"I've pulled over people before in the past, where they have their phone on speaker, but they have the phone in their hand and they say what are you talking about, I've got my phone on speaker. And I said, but it's in your hand! It's gotta be, you can't have it in your hand. That's the whole hands-free thing."

In addition to cell phone violations, Korando adds during the week of Thanksgiving Troopers will be on the lookout for seatbelt violations, drivers who are speeding, and drivers who are under the influence.
