The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) now says 85 teenagers and an adult staff member contracted COVID-19 at the Crossing Camp. The summer youth camp took place in mid-June in Rushville.

One unvaccinated young adult required hospital treatment.

The IDPH said a couple people at the camp also attended a nearby conference, which resulted in 11 more cases of COVID-19.

The department said it appears most of those attending the camp were not inoculated even though everyone was eligible for the vaccine. People age 12 and older are eligible for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, but teens are the group least likely to have gotten their COVID shots.

The state reports a vaccination rate of around 40% in Schuyler and Adams counties, which is where the outbreaks happened.
