Statewide: Remembering The Red Summer In Chicago

On this week's Statewide, as the country marks a century since the Tulsa Race Massacre, we'll hear about  what's known as "The Red Summer" of 1919.  Racial violence and death occurred in many cities, including Chicago.  An author will tells what happened.

And this past year has seen a strong push for racial justice.  We'll look back on the impact it's had on some in northern Illinois.

The lineup:

* Rich Egger of TriStates Public Radio and Herb Trix of WVIK report what's happening with Western Illinois University's plans to expand into the Quad Cities.

* Brian O'Keefe speaks with author Claire Hartfield, whose book "A Few Red Drops", examines the Red Summer of 1919 in Chicago.

* Susie An from WBEZ explains how the pandemic has hurt home daycare operators.

* WCBU's Tim Shelley talks with Bradley University biochemistry professor Brad Andersh on his research into drug-resistant bacteria.

* Eric Stock from WGLT reports how organic farming has had a strong year, but there are concerns about the next generation of farmers.

* WNIJ's Peter Medlin tells us what has changed in education after calls for racial justice.

* Susan Stephens interviews Rockford Register Star photographer Scott Yates, who covered protests againt police brutality in Rockford last year.

* Yvonne Boose finds out how the racial justice movement has impacted poets.
