A campaign finance watchdog says he’s troubled by the amount of money that’s been raised in the race for Illinois governor. Bruce Rauner is a venture capitalist running for the Republican nomination. He’s raised more than a million dollars from major donors in December alone - and has already been running TV ads for the March primary. That concerns David Morrison - who is with the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform.
"There ought to be opportunities for all candidates to speak their minds to voters so that voters know who they’re dealing with. And the risk in having someone with so much money is that that discussion doesn’t actually happen," Morrison said.
Morrison says it’s unusual for candidates to air political ads around the holidays. Rauner faces State Senators Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard and Treasurer Dan Rutherford in the primary.
