A couple weeks ago reporters got a look at conditions inside the Vienna state prison in Southern Illinois. In preparation for the scrutiny, prison administrators had been busy fixing the place up-- cleaning, painting, and repairing windows.
A two-hour tour of the Vienna Correctional CenterĀ offered journalists a glimpse at the minimum security facility. Governor Pat Quinn in August argued state prisons were off limits to the news media because of a security risk. But in October he abandoned that effort.
