Investigators have issued a preliminary report into the fatal medical helicopter crash earlier Dec. 10 near Rochelle. The NTSB report says the pilot notified the dispatch center about weather conditions and said he was aborting the flight. No further communications were received.

Rockford Health System officials said Tuesday that the pilot of the medical helicopter that crashed near Rochelle Monday night was turning around because the aircraft encountered weather. Officials could not elaborate, but area residents reported sleet-like conditions at the time of the crash.
