The Illinois Senate is urging Gov. Bruce Rauner to reject a presidential call to send National Guard troops to help secure the U.S.-Mexican border.

The Democratic-controlled Senate voted 33-22 Thursday to adopt a resolution urging the GOP governor not to comply if President Donald Trump makes a request.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin has voiced his support for President Trump’s nominee for FBI Director.

In his statement of support for Christopher Wray, the Illinois Democrat expressed concern about the actions of President Trump in dismissing former FBI Director James Comey. But Durbin said he has confidence that Wray would remain independent, even under pressure from the White House.

A Democrat running for Illinois governor in 2018 is calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

J.B. Pritzker said in a statement Wednesday the House of Representatives should begin impeachment proceedings. He says there are "credible reports" that Trump "obstructed justice in the investigation of the Russian hacking of our democracy."

Pritzker was a top supporter of Hillary Clinton, helping raise millions for her unsuccessful campaign against Trump. The Chicago billionaire says calling for impeachment is "not something done lightly" but that it's necessary.

President Barack Obama is returning to the city that launched his unlikely political career to give one final speech.

He'll deliver in Chicago a parting plea to Americans not to lose faith in their future, no matter what they think about their next president.

Obama's speech before thousands on Tuesday evening is his last chance to try to define what his presidency meant for America, and a fitting bookend.

Chicago is where the nation's first black president declared victory in 2008 and where he cultivated his decidedly optimistic brand of American politics.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth is calling U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk “unhinged'' after the Illinois Republican said President Barack Obama was “acting like the drug dealer in chief.''

Duckworth is challenging Kirk for Senate. Kirk criticized Obama last week over a $400 million cash payment the administration made to Iran contingent on the release of American prisoners.

He says the president shouldn't give “clean packs of money to a ... state sponsor of terror.”
