Clock Ticking for Health Insurance Exchanges

A key Illinois lawmaker says it still appears the state will partner with the federal government on a health insurance exchange.  But Democratic Representative Frank Mautino of Spring Valley says the goal is to make it a one-year partnership.  Under the nation's health-care law, states can either run their own exchange, or get assistance from Washington.  The exchanges are required to be up and running by 2014.

Judge Halts Rockford Hospital Deal

A federal judge has halted a deal between Rockford Health System and Peoria-based OSF HealthCare until the Federal Trade Commission can review it.

U.S. District Judge Frederick Kapala in Rockford made the ruling Thursday. He is ordering the two health systems to maintain the status quo for now.

The FTC challenged OSF's proposed acquisition of Rockford Health System on antitrust grounds. OSF runs OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Rockford Health operates Rockford Memorial Hospital.
