A concealed carry measure supported by the National Rifle Association was defeated in the Illinois House Thursday. It was the latest attempt by lawmakers to comply with a court order that they pass a law permitting people to carry guns in public.

Illinois lawmakers have until June 9th to come up with a plan to allow the concealed carry of handguns in the state, by order of a federal court. There have been a number of public hearings on the issue, but so far, legislative maneuvers have kept any plan from advancing.

Several state lawmakers want Illinois to stop investing in companies that make guns. It's the latest in a series of anti-gun initiatives up for debate in the legislature this spring.
