The RSO Classics Concert Series - "Rhapsody and Reveries"

Classical WNIU is pleased to sponsor the next “Classics Series” performance by our very own Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Saturday, February 9th at the Coronado Theater. In a program called "Rhapsody and Reveries," we'll hear how two 26-year-old men, living a century and a continent apart, changed the course of musical history forever.

In 1924 New York, George Gershwin took a break from writing hit Broadway musicals to write “Rhapsody in Blue” for solo piano and orchestra. The jazz- infused results proved that this homegrown musical style with bluesy roots could also energize the music of the European concert hall. Meanwhile, a century earlier, Hector Berlioz built a volcanic masterpiece out of white-hot fantasies fueled by the despair of unrequited love. His innovations went on to inspire the music of Liszt and Wagner.

Don't miss an exciting evening with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and guest pianist Charlie Albright, 7:30 this Saturday at the Coronado Theater.  You’ll find more information about Saturday’s concert on our Events page.
