Rockford Police Hold District 2 Station Open House

Rockford Police Department

Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea and Mayor Larry Morrissey welcomed several hundred people Wednesday into the old Turner School Building at 1410 Broadway.

The new Police District 2 headquarters is the second to celebrate an opening this year as part of the city’s new geographic policing strategy.  This involves locating stations in the heart of communities struggling with crime. The Rockford Register Star reports the District 2 headquarters will house detectives (including property and violent crime units), the gang unit, and patrol officers.

The District 3 station opened earlier this month at the former New Towne Post Office and is home to administrative offices.  The District 1 station is being built from the ground up at Avon and West State streets, and is expected to open this spring.
