The 2018 race for Illinois governor could be the most expensive in U.S. history. With nine months until election day, the five leading candidates have raised more than $136 million, already exceeding any other contest before in Illinois. Democrat J.B. Pritzker has spent over $34 million of his $49 million campaign chest in an attempt to win the Democratic nomination. And a once sleepy Republican race has seen shifting alliances in recent weeks, after billionaire Dick Uihlein gave $2.5 million to Gov. Bruce Rauner's challenger, Illinois House Rep. Jeanne Ives, who opposes abortion and rights for gay and transgender people. To track this money circus, ProPublica Illinois has created a graphic that will update with the latest fundraising information.

Possible Illinois Governor Candidates Deal Blows To Rauner

Cook County Democratic leaders heard from the six candidates thinking of running for governor Monday ahead of a potential endorsement later this year.

Each candidate attacked Governor Bruce Rauner.

Chicago Alderman Ameya Pawar compared Rauner to colonial England - dividing allies to conquer them.

Venture capitalist JB Pritzker said Rauner’s agenda is the Koch Brothers’ agenda.

Chicago Treasurer Kurt Summers had to be asked about Rauner’s shortcomings - and said he hasn’t seen one accomplishment.

State Senator Daniel Biss says Rauner’s agenda is radical and extreme.

Downstate schools superintendent Bob Daiber didn’t actually talk about Rauner.

And former Merchandise Mart President Chris Kennedy said he thinks Rauner wants to run for president on a campaign of busting unions.

In response, a GOP spokesman said that’s laughable and Rauner’s focused on Illinois.
