The Ogle County Board wants to continue negotiations with the Oregon City Council over a sally-port for the new county jail.
Plans for the jail included vacating part of Sixth Street in Oregon for an uninterrupted path between the jail and courthouse. This would allow authorities to escort inmates directly between the two buildings for hearings without the need for additional security.
However, the Oregon City Council didn’t approve a measure vacating that part of the street. The County Board considered other options, such as an underground path between the two buildings or a second-story skyway -- options which they say would increase the project's cost by $1.5 to $2 million. Instead, the board sent a previous offer to the Council asking for continued negotiations for a sally port.
